Was pleasantly surprised by this Japanese restaurant in Iowa City. The bento box was good (tonkatsu) and the California maki was great.

I've had sushi from this place 3 times now. The first two times were decent but I wasn't overly impressed. Last night though, we ordered for pickup and it was a different experience. And i'm only speaking to the quality of the food, not the service (it was fine, as pickup rarely goes wrong, I would never order sushi for delivery, it just seems too risky ie. sushi can end up sitting around for longer than you would like). I had the Caterpillar roll and also a order of the sweet potato tempura roll. My partner had the Dragon roll and tuna roll. Both our dishes were so good. The sweet potato tempura roll was wonderful. I had ordered this before and I don't remember it being this delicious The Caterpillar roll was decadent, with thin slices of avocado wrapping around some spicy tuna and topped with tobiko. The portion was a nice size too. Basically, this restaurant is on the improve in terms of the quality of their sushi. I look forward to ordering from them again!

Was pleasantly surprised by how fresh and well-combined the food was! They have lunch sets, but their bento sets are my favorite. A range of alcoholic drinks is served if you're interested.

Yay! I finally found a hibachi steak house in Iowa city and they have SHRIMP SAUCE!! Aka yum yum sauce. It's delicious! Their rolls are also awesome! Def will be going back

I really enjoyed their food. Finally I found a place that has good sushi in Iowa city! Probably my new favorite spot. Their appetizers are big portions for a great price. The fish is excellent!!!!! It's owned by Asian people so they know their stuff too. This will be my go to spot.

Good quality, well made rolls, staff was very friendly and threw in an extra roll with our order. Will return.

Great sushi selection. The service is good, too. I had black dragon roll and volcano roll. Both very yummy. I had Thai ice tea as well and it is also tasty. Definitely will be back.!they also have bento box and noodles dishes. I'll try next time

Osaka has some quality Japanese delivery. I generally love getting their bento box (chicken katsu) or their various arrays of delicious sushi. The hibatchi is good as well: Not too salty, but full of flavor. If you DO order delivery, keep in mind that it may be up to an hour (or more). If you're okay with that, then this isn't an issue since the food is so good. What I'm not okay with is ordering something and having parts of it not come with what I ordered. I know a few people have complained about this, but in the dozens of times my husband and I have ordered delivery it has only happened once. The sushi is very fresh. I lived in Japan for awhile and while it's not the same, the quality is still good. The menu is large and there's something for everyone more or less. My qualm for not giving five stars is that they seem to have re-done their menu. I no longer found bento boxes, bubble tea, and various other things. The menu has shrunk tremendously, and in honesty, it makes me not as excited. The food is still good though, so I'll manage and still enjoy.

Do. Not. Order. Delivery. They have incredibly delicious food, but their delivery service has consistently been either very late, leaking sauce all over the bag, or missing part of the meal.

I'll start this off by saying this place REALLY makes me miss the previous Iron Hawk restaurant that was here. Don't be fooled by the lunch deals; miso soup and salad included with 2 rolls sounds like a steal for ~$9 but you're better off ordering pretty much anything else. I've had their bento boxes once or twice and they were OKAY at best. But if you're wanting great sushi, this probably isn't the place for you. I ordered the spicy tuna and Alaskan roll. The spicy tuna was not even a real cut; it was like a paste that had some funky texture. I couldn't even finish my plate. On top of that, the rice was poorly cooked and on the tougher side. As for the Alaskan roll, I cannot say that was any better unfortunately. In addition, the side salad was DOUSED in dressing and really wasn't anything special. The miso was probably the only thing that wasn't god awful. Don't bother wasting your time here and go to Takanami if you want some REAL sushi. I will not be returning back here.

I went here once with a large group of friends. The sushi is decent and relatively inexpensive. However, the service wasn't great. All in all, it was a good experience. I totally recommend the sweet potato rolls and the age dashi tofu.

Ordered the Rainbow and Yellowtail rolls. Wife had vegetable combo dinner. Salad tasted pre-prepared. Lettuce in salad had an odd taste to it. It had soaked in dressing for while which changed the texture of the greens(not crisp). The sushi was, bland. Rice was dry and tough. Rolls were oddly cold. Side note: paid a visit during the Arts Fest. Thrawls of people were right outside the doors, but it was empty inside. I had high hopes for this place, but with great places like Oyama & Formosa, a return visit from me is unlikely.

Great new Japanese place in downtown IC. The salmon Bento Box was delicious, and the ginger dressing on the salad superb. I liked the miso soup very much. The edamame cooked just right. Will return.

I've had a great experience dining in here before, but the one time that I ordered delivery online was terrible. I was so ticked that they sent me a California Roll instead of an Alaskan Roll like I ordered - they aren't even similar!? I also ordered my favorite roll on their menu, the Crazy Dragon roll, but when it was delivered it was missing the cream cheese that was in it when I had dined in (and is stated as an ingredient in the roll on the menu). The Alaskan Roll also has cream cheese in it but the Fascists at Osaka Imperialist Sushi did not allow me to have that roll. Stop withholding the cream cheese!!!! It really makes some of the rolls what they are and without it they are boring. I paid $25 in delivery for these two rolls and felt really cheated. Unlike the other reviewer I didn't call and complain and I suppose its probably too late to do so now. Just avoid their delivery!!!!

New place in town with good food & a Nice staff. Place isn't huge but it's decent. Really calm and casual atmosphere. I enjoyed everything.

The food was good with reasonable price. The combination of the rolls are interesting. However, I found that Godzilla roll has a bit too much cream cheese and their rice is a bit too hard and dry.

Update: manager called us back and gave us a refund! Placed an order for delivery. What arrived was completely different than what we ordered. We ordered based on their internet menu, which has pictures. It's an automated ordering system. When we called to complain, Osaka said their website is wrong. When I asked for a manager, I was told managers don't keep a regular schedule but one would call us back. Basically given the run around. :( won't ever order again!!

We walked in after seeing a bubble tea ad outside the restaurant. The restaurant was slow as it was around 4 pm. We ordered a green tea flavored bubble tea (cold of course). It took almost 20 minutes to receive our order. I knew something was not quite right even before tasting it because it was lukewarm. It had the most interesting scent and flavor that we've ever tasted in a bubble tea. It smelled like incense, and it tasted as if they put ground incense in it. It just had too much strange herbal flavor for us to handle.

"Terrible food "wasabi sauce and spy mayo!! The sauce is brown and dark, so I am so afraid to taste it because it supposed to be light green like every place where I have eaten sushi before! It seems like something wrong with the sauce! And spy mayo has weird taste, too! I am not going back again!!!!!!!! Especially the sushi chef looks so dirty, he always wears his black coat and talk on his phone all the time. I don't think he can make clean food since I never see him washing hands after touch his phone!!!!!!!!

Inside decor was a pleasant surprise, compared to its lack of curb appeal. It's also unexpectedly roomy inside. The food was okay. Nothing to rave about, though. Sushi portions were small, even for a Japanese restaurant. Unfortunately, our servers weren't friendly at all. If you're okay with just having food delivered to you, this will do. But, then again, a much less expensive all-u-can-eat, run-of-the-mill sushi bar would suffice, in that case. So, don't expect the pampering for which you might leave tips elsewhere.

Best sushi in Iowa City. Service is great, food is amazing. They also have delivery. Not sure why more people haven't caught on and still go to the other sushi restaurants in town.
